Today Payment Source would like to announce a total donation of $45,780 has been donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank in memory of their co-founder, George DeMarchi who passed away on April 5th.
“George would have been deeply moved by this show of generosity in his name,” says Trevor Cook, CEO of Payment Source. “The amount raised showcases the type of man he was and how important he was to the community around him.”
A fundraising page in George’s name was created in his memory that raised $15,390 for the Daily Bread, Payment Source then matched that donation of $15, 390. Additionally, the Humber Valley Hockey Association (HVHA) also donated $15k.
“The Daily Bread Food Bank was a charity that George felt very strongly about helping and encouraged those around him to do the same,” says Grace Caputo, Vice President, Products & Partnerships at Payment Source. “He believed that his community was his family. He had a very nurturing spirit and would be very pleased that those who he knew personally had donated to this worthy cause.”
The Daily Bread Food Bank is the largest provider of food relief in the GTA and fights hunger in the communities George lived and worked in. Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Toronto in March, Daily Bread’s onsite food bank has experienced a 53% increase in clients, at the same time both food donations and volunteer supply has been disrupted. The need across the city of Toronto will only continue to grow exponentially as the financial impacts of COVID-19 are realized.
