Today Payment Source would like to announce the development of a fundraising effort for the Daily Bread Food Bank in the memory of their co-founder George DeMarchi who passed away on April 5th.
“Giving back to the community was always important to George,” says Trevor Cook, CEO of Payment Source. “He was always generous with his time and encouraged others to do the same - And the Daily Bread Food Bank was a cause near and dear to his heart as he believed feeding the community was one of the best ways to nurture it, and keep it strong.”
The Daily Bread Food Bank is the largest provider of food relief in the GTA and fights hunger in the communities George lived and worked in - it supports 200 food programs in Toronto and supplies more than 89,000 meals to local shelters every year. Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Toronto in March, Daily Bread’s onsite food bank has experienced a 53% increase in clients, at the same time both food donations and volunteer supply has been disrupted. The need across the city of Toronto will only continue to grow exponentially as the financial impacts of COVID-19 are realized. A fundraising page for the Daily Bread has been established and all donations will be gifted in memory of George.
As part of this fundraising effort, Humber Valley Hockey Association (HVHA) has very generously made a donation of $15,000 to the Daily Bread Food Bank in George’s memory. George was an alumni of HVHA and an integral member of that community. During his years with their organization was a team manager, leader, mentor and friend to all who knew him.
“Our Etobicoke community has never faced a challenge quite like the one we find ourselves in right now. Like George, giving back to the community is an important part of our fabric at Humber Valley,” says Steve Allmen, President, Humber Valley Hockey Association. “In this time of great need we wanted to pay tribute to George and our other volunteers by helping the Daily Bread Food Bank, an organization he felt strongly about supporting.”
To date the fundraising effort has raised over $26k (including the HVHA donation).
